Solo exhibition at Glasgow Sculpture Studios Gallery
This was my first solo exhibition, and came at the end of a years residency at the Glasgow Sculpture Studios.
This exhibition was as much a display of starting points as a display of finished pieces. That being said, two of the works I still enjoy thinking about: 1 in 13 986 378 and Junior collection (Glasgow)
1 in 13 986 378 is a representation of 'Lotto', the UK's national lottery. Every possible sequence of numbers possible within the game is printed onto A4 paper at font size 2, still readable by the naked eye. This forms a stack of nearly 2000 sheets of gray paper.
Junior collection (Glasgow) was the result of my quest to collect every VHS copy of Junior in Glasgow. Initially I set about trying to do this as I had noticed it as a recurrent feature in numerous charity shop video collections. My passion grew once I had all of these copies though, and I started putting posters around the city asking for people to donate their copies. The resulting collection of 24 is both impressive and pitiful, but I believe represents an honest attempt to take ownership of an otherwise unwanted cultural object. The project continues, and to date I have aorund 40 copies of the Junior.
